Caveats

• Slithy is a library, not an application. You make pictures and animations by writing code, not pointing and clicking. There are both advantages and disadvantages to this.

  If you have programming experience, it should be a snap to pick up enough Python to use Slithy. Here's a good Python tutorial.

• Slithy is very much research code. There are probably many bugs. I'll try to be responsive about fixing things, but there are no guarantees. This also means you'll have to put up with frequent updates (note that the archive is labeled with a date, not a version number...)

• While I do most of the development in Slithy in Linux, I've always used Windows to give actual presentations. Consequently some features needed for giving an actual presentation (most importantly full-screen mode) are only implemented in Windows. Also, video only works in Windows.

• You'll need hardware-accelerated OpenGL for Slithy to run at all well.

• I've had poor experiences with ATI graphics hardware — especially the Mobility Radeons. Some of this is probably bugs that the nVidia drivers happen to tolerate, but some of it is bad drivers from ATI. If you get weird things happening using Slithy on an ATI card, let me know, but don't expect a quick fix.

• The examples work best at a resolution with 4x3 aspect ratio. 1024x768 is probably optimal for most projectors. Better handling of different aspect ratios is on the to-do list.
